About Guidr

Think Guidr is just a list of opportunities? Think again.

Story Behind Guidr

Hi there, my name is Mohamed Wael, and I’m the founder and developer of Guidr.

I’ve truly loved my high school journey—from getting rejected by Egypt’s STEM schools to being accepted into Pioneer Academics, the Yale Young African Scholars, and earning a silver medal in the International Youth Math Challenge. I’ve explored a lot, achieved a lot, and most importantly, learned a lot. Now, as a senior “Thanawya Amma” student, I’m planning my next step: university—with full passion and love for what I do.

But before I take that next step, I have a mission: to fill the gaps I struggled through.

I come from rural Egypt. I had no guidance, no resources, and no access to information about high school opportunities. I didn’t know what extracurricular activities were or how college admissions even worked. My only way forward was by searching endlessly—reading blogs like Lumiere, messaging students on Instagram, and learning piece by piece from scattered sources. I didn’t even know the basics. And that’s not okay.

I don’t want any student to go through what I went through.

That’s why I started Guidr—to help students explore extracurricular activities and navigate their own journeys with more clarity, confidence, and awareness than I had. But I didn’t just want to build another opportunity list that says “Hey, there’s something called LaunchX.” I wanted to build something systematic, sustainable, and truly helpful—a platform that actually guides.

Guidr is that platform.

Our Mission

At Guidr, our mission is to empower high school students across Egypt by raising awareness about the life-changing value of extracurricular activities. We’re here to make sure no student is left behind simply because they didn’t know where to start.

We aim to build a comprehensive, student-first platform that connects students with opportunities—clubs, summer programs, competitions, volunteer work, and more—while offering the tools, guidance, and real-life insights they need to take action. Guidr is about more than just listing opportunities; it's about helping students discover who they are, what they love, and how far they can go.

We’ve been through the struggle ourselves. Now, we’re on a mission to make that journey easier, clearer, and more accessible for every student—especially those who come from under-resourced communities like we did.

Our Vision

We envision a future where every high school student in Egypt—no matter where they come from—has equal access to the world of extracurricular opportunities. A future where students don’t have to stumble in the dark or rely on luck to shape their paths.

Our goal is to establish Guidr as the leading platform for extracurricular exploration and engagement in Egypt—a trusted space where students can discover programs, grow their skills, build their passions, and connect with a supportive community. We’re working to create a culture where extracurriculars aren’t optional or unknown—they’re essential, understood, and celebrated.

We believe that with the right tools and support, every student can unlock their full potential—becoming leaders, changemakers, and dreamers who are prepared not just for college, but for life.
