
Foyle Young Poets Competition
Description:
The Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award is one of the world’s most prestigious poetry competitions for young people aged 11–17. The competition encourages young poets to showcase their creativity and originality in their poems, which must be no longer than 40 lines. The theme is open, and all styles of poetry are accepted. Winners will have their work published in an anthology and receive a range of exciting prizes, including mentoring and support from The Poetry Society.

The competition is aimed at young poets aged 11–17 worldwide. It's designed to celebrate creativity and provide a platform for young voices in poetry. The competition is open to all young poets, regardless of background or experience.
How to participate
Online Submission: Submit your poem(s) online at foyleyoungpoets.org.
Judging Criteria
Creativity and Originality: The uniqueness and inventiveness of the poem.
Adherence to the Theme: While there is no specific theme, judges will look for poems that offer fresh perspectives and innovative approaches.
Artistic Expression: The use of language, imagery, and structure in the poem.
Impact: The emotional or intellectual impact of the poem on the reader.

Eligibility
Age: Open to individuals aged 11–17 on 31 July 2025.
Entry Limit: You may submit multiple poems, but it’s recommended to focus on quality over quantity.
Originality: Poems must be original and unpublished.
Parental Consent: Minors aged 11–12 must provide proof of parental permission.
Language: Poems must be written in English, British Sign Language, or Braille.
Previous Winners: Previous winners can re-enter.
Rounds
This competition is a single-round event. All entries are judged together, and there are no separate rounds. The best poems are selected for publication and awards.

Publication of their poems in the print anthology, distributed to schools and libraries.

A year's Youth Membership to The Poetry Society.

85 Commended Poets:
Publication in an online anthology.
